Royal Air Maroc bets on Starlink Wi‑Fi to upgrade its flights

This update focuses on Royal Air Maroc Starlink Wi‑Fi. Royal Air Maroc is taking a major step in modernising its services by becoming the first African airline to adopt Starlink Wi‑Fi on board, a move that could reshape how Moroccans living abroad stay connected while travelling.

Royal Air Maroc Starlink Wi‑Fi: what will change in the air

According to the airline, 41 aircraft will be fitted with Starlink’s high‑speed connectivity solution, operated by SpaceX. The aim is straightforward: provide very high‑speed, stable and continuous internet access throughout the flight.

Once the system is installed, passengers will be able to stream content, use messaging apps, work in real time and follow online procedures without waiting to land.

For frequent flyers among the Moroccan community abroad, who often combine long‑haul trips, remote work and family coordination across time zones, this in‑flight connectivity can offer a tangible benefit.

Rollout from 2027 on part of the fleet

The rollout of Starlink Wi‑Fi is scheduled to begin at the start of 2027. Royal Air Maroc announces a gradual expansion across its fleet in order to preserve smooth operations.

In the first phase, only the 41 announced aircraft will be equipped. The airline has not yet specified which aircraft types or routes will be prioritised. Moroccans abroad will therefore need to check, at the time of booking, whether their flight offers connectivity once this information becomes available.

The CEO of Royal Air Maroc, Hamid Addou, presents the agreement as a decisive step in transforming the customer experience, alongside fleet renewal and cabin upgrades.

Safar Flyer and Wi‑Fi: key points for Moroccans abroad

One crucial point for regular travellers, especially Moroccans living abroad: access to Starlink Wi‑Fi will be free for all members of the Safar Flyer loyalty programme, according to the airline.

To make the most of their upcoming trips, Moroccans abroad can:

  • sign up for, or confirm their enrolment in, the Safar Flyer programme before travelling;
  • always link their loyalty number to each booking;
  • monitor announcements on the Royal Air Maroc website about the first connected routes;
  • plan online work, remote meetings or important calls during connected flights.

For families, the onboard connection could also help keep children entertained and maintain real‑time contact with relatives in Morocco or in other countries.

A new step for African aviation

For Starlink, operated by SpaceX, Royal Air Maroc’s decision marks an important milestone for connectivity in African aviation. The airline becomes the first on the continent to adopt a technology already deployed on other markets.

Royal Air Maroc Starlink Wi‑Fi is part of a broader, multi‑year modernisation plan: new cabins, upgraded ground and onboard customer experience, and a stronger role as a hub between Africa, Europe and the rest of the world.

While the first connected flights are expected in 2027, Moroccans abroad will still have to wait a bit. But the announcement shows that competition on digital comfort now also extends to routes to and from Morocco, a factor that increasingly influences airline choices for trips home.

To follow the rollout and confirm the services available on specific routes, passengers are advised to check directly on the Royal Air Maroc website and compare options at the time of booking, alongside independent guides on travel and returns to Morocco.
