Abdellatif Jouahri Among Top Central Bank Governors in Global Finance 2026

Abdellatif Jouahri is once again listed among the world’s highest-rated monetary leaders. The governor of Bank Al-Maghrib received an A- grade in Global Finance magazine’s 2026 ranking. He joins the 25 central bank governors recognized by the American magazine.

Abdellatif Jouahri receives an A-

Global Finance published its Central Banker Report Cards 2026 on September 8.

The ranking evaluates governors from nearly 100 countries, territories and jurisdictions. The magazine assigns grades from A+ to F, assessing factors such as inflation control, growth, monetary stability, interest-rate management and central bank independence.

With an A-, Abdellatif Jouahri joins this year’s group of top-rated leaders.

He is also the only central bank governor from North Africa to receive this distinction in 2026.

An international recognition for Bank Al-Maghrib

The recognition places Bank Al-Maghrib among the monetary institutions closely watched by international observers.

The ranking rewards multiple dimensions of central bank performance. Global Finance notably considers their ability to preserve price and currency stability.

The magazine also evaluates interest-rate management and independence from political pressures.

This assessment therefore gives international visibility to the conduct of Moroccan monetary policy.

An A- after two years at A

The 2026 distinction includes a nuance.

Abdellatif Jouahri had earned an A in 2024 and 2025. This year he receives an A-. He therefore remains among the leaders, but with a slightly lower grade than in the previous two years.

The 2026 ranking is nonetheless favorable to the Moroccan governor. He still appears among the 25 highest-rated monetary officials.

This continuity reflects Bank Al-Maghrib’s standing in international evaluations.

Global Finance’s criteria

The ranking is based on several economic and monetary criteria.

Global Finance examines governors’ ability to control inflation and also reviews their results on growth and currency stability.

Interest-rate management is another criterion. Central bank independence is also part of the evaluation.

According to the magazine, the best-rated governors must contend with persistent inflationary pressures and uncertain growth.

They must also maintain market and public confidence.

Abdellatif Jouahri remains a reference figure

As head of Bank Al-Maghrib, Abdellatif Jouahri remains a recognized figure in the international monetary landscape.

His regular appearance in Global Finance rankings boosts the visibility of Morocco’s central bank.

This recognition comes amid a context where central banks must manage multiple simultaneous challenges. Inflation, growth, interest rates and monetary stability remain central to their decisions.

For Morocco, this new distinction confirms the presence of its governor among the most highly rated monetary officials.

Morocco retains a place among the leaders

The 2026 ranking thus places Abdellatif Jouahri among the world’s top central bank governors.

An A- is not the top grade in the ranking—A+ and A rank above it—but it confirms the high level of evaluation assigned to the Moroccan governor.

After two consecutive years with an A, Abdellatif Jouahri therefore keeps a prominent position in Global Finance’s ranking.
