Casablanca stock market rebounds after sharp drop

The Casablanca Stock Exchange opened sharply higher on Monday, signalling a rebound for investors after a turbulent end to last week.

Casablanca Stock Exchange: key indices back in positive territory

At the opening, the Casablanca Stock Exchange showed gains across its main indices.

The benchmark MASI index rose by 1.47%, reaching 17,851.16 points and recovering part of the 2.18% loss recorded on Friday.

The MASI 20, which tracks the 20 most liquid stocks on the market, gained 1.62% to 1,303.09 points. The MASI ESG index, focused on companies with the best environmental, social and governance ratings, climbed 1.59% to 1,328.53 points.

The MASI Mid and Small Cap index, which measures the performance of small and mid-cap stocks in Casablanca, also advanced, adding 0.74% to reach 1,686.9 points.

Bank and industrial stocks lead the rebound

Several stocks stood out with strong gains in the first trades.

  • BMCI posted the strongest rise at +9.26% to 590 MAD.
  • CDM gained 6.41% to 996 MAD.
  • Cash Plus S.A rose 5.25% to 235.75 MAD.
  • Ciments du Maroc advanced 5.08% to 1,634 MAD.
  • Atlantasanad was up 4.20% at 124 MAD.

These moves highlight renewed appetite for banking and industrial names, which are closely watched by retail investors, including Moroccans living abroad.

Losers remain despite market recovery

Despite the broad rebound on the Casablanca Stock Exchange, not all sectors moved higher.

The main losers at the opening included:

  • Med Paper, down 4.33% to 22.96 MAD.
  • Société des Boissons du Maroc, falling 4.03% to 2,022 MAD.
  • Lesieur Cristal, slipping 3.10% to 281.10 MAD.
  • Aradei Capital, losing 2.43% to 437 MAD.
  • Zellidja S.A, declining 2.17% to 270 MAD.

These corrections show that volatility remains high and that price movements can differ widely from one stock to another.

What this means for Moroccans living abroad

For Moroccans abroad who already hold Moroccan shares or are considering investing, the rebound of the MASI index shows that the market is still able to recover quickly after difficult sessions.

When preparing a return to Morocco or building a long-term link with the country, tracking the this case can help better assess a portfolio in dirhams, whether it is made up of bank stocks, industrials, or listed real estate companies.

This positive move is not a substitute for personalised financial advice, but it offers a useful indicator of confidence in the Moroccan market when planning investments, property purchases, or the gradual repatriation of savings.

Interested Moroccans abroad can complement this market monitoring with information available on official Moroccan portals, especially for regulatory and tax aspects related to their investments.
