Morocco’s fertilizer exports have reached a new milestone. In 2024, the Kingdom exported 12.15 million tonnes of fertilizers, according to sector data based on FAO statistics. Morocco is now ranked 3rd in the world, behind Russia and Canada.
With 23.23 million tonnes, Russia holds first place. Canada follows with 14.42 million tonnes. Morocco is ahead of China, which exported 10.13 million tonnes, and the United States, with 6.37 million tonnes.

These volumes place Morocco ahead of several major industrial powers. This position confirms the importance of the Kingdom in the global fertilizer market.
Morocco strengthens its presence in the fertilizer market
This performance is part of the broader transformation of Morocco’s phosphate industry.
The Kingdom no longer limits itself to exporting raw phosphate. It has also developed a processing industry and now produces various types of phosphate-based and compound fertilizers.
This evolution allows Morocco to better capitalize on its phosphate resources and to meet diverse agricultural needs across several international markets.
Africa occupies a particularly important place in this strategy. For several years, Morocco has been developing fertilizer solutions adapted to the soils and crops of the continent.
Moroccan exports support an integrated industry
Behind the exported volumes lies an industrial chain that combines mining, chemical processing, fertilizer production and logistics.

The performance recorded in 2024 is based on a resource that Morocco holds in abundance: phosphate.
But the industrial strategy mainly aims to process this resource within the national territory. Fertilizer production thus makes it possible to create more value around phosphate before it is exported.
This approach goes hand in hand with investments in industrial capacity, logistics and applied research.
A growing weight in global fertilizer trade
With 12.15 million tonnes exported in 2024, Morocco is now one of the world’s leading fertilizer suppliers.
This performance must nevertheless be viewed within a highly competitive market. Russia maintains a significant lead, and Canada also remains ahead of Morocco in terms of volume.
The ranking nonetheless confirms a major shift: the Moroccan fertilizer industry now occupies a leading position in global agricultural trade.
