Casablanca Stock Exchange closes higher as market stays upbeat

The Casablanca Stock Exchange ended Tuesday’s trading in positive territory, confirming the current momentum of the Moroccan equity market for investors watching the country from abroad.

The main index of the Casablanca Stock Exchange, the MASI, gained 0.6% to close at 17,754.91 points. This rise fits into the broader upward trend seen on the Moroccan market in recent months.

The MASI 20, which tracks the 20 most liquid stocks, advanced by 0.46% to 1,284.56 points. The MASI ESG index, focused on companies with the best environmental, social and governance ratings, added 0.68% to 1,314.74 points.

Smaller companies also benefited from the session. The MASI Mid and Small Cap index rose by 1.02% to 1,735.84 points, underlining investor interest in mid and small caps.

Sector winners and laggards

Several sectors clearly supported the market. The best sector performances came from:

  • “Beverages” (+4.98%)
  • “Agricultural industry” (+3.19%)
  • “Financing companies and other financial activities” (+1.79%)

These moves highlight sustained appetite for consumer-related businesses, agro-industry and financial services, three pillars of the Moroccan economy.

On the downside, some sectors saw profit-taking. “Forestry and paper” (-3.72%), “Chemicals” (-2.7%) and “Insurance” (-0.51%) recorded the steepest falls of the day.

Key stocks and traded volumes

Total trading volume reached around 418.2 million dirhams on the central market. Three names dominated activity: SGTM with 202.79 million dirhams, TGCC with 42.03 million dirhams and BCP with 33.95 million dirhams.

At stock level, several shares stood out on the upside, confirming the positive tone on the Casablanca Stock Exchange. Oulmes climbed 5.96% to 1,156 dirhams, BMCI rose 5.45% to 580 dirhams, Société des Boissons du Maroc gained 4.7% to 2,094 dirhams, Balima advanced 4.19% to 199 dirhams and Ciments du Maroc increased 3.88% to 1,579 dirhams.

Among the main decliners, Rebab Company dropped 5.99% to 93.07 dirhams, IB Maroc.com lost 5.55% to 55.11 dirhams, Med Paper slid 3.72% to 23.3 dirhams, SNEP fell 3.19% to 300 dirhams and Wafa Assurance eased 1.8% to 4,910 dirhams.

Market cap above 1.0439 trillion dirhams

Total market capitalization exceeded 1.0439 trillion dirhams, underlining the growing role of the equity market in financing Morocco’s economy and the importance of large listed companies.
