Tangier National Film Festival moves its 26th edition to March 2027

The Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM) has announced that the 26th edition of the Tangier National Film Festival has been postponed to March 2027, instead of the original dates of 23–31 October 2026.

Tangier National Film Festival: what to know

In a statement, the CCM explained that rescheduling the Tangier National Film Festival follows requests and proposals submitted by several professional organisations and key players in the film industry.

The Center stresses that this move is part of its participatory approach with the different components of the sector. The aim is to listen to professionals, take their proposals into account and improve the way national film events are organised, while strengthening their visibility.

October overloaded with film events

The CCM says it has responded to a central concern raised by the industry: October has become a month packed with national and international film festivals and events.

This concentration creates overlapping calendars and can limit the participation of Moroccan professionals and films in these events, including the Tangier National Film Festival, which is seen as a key moment for the national industry.

By moving the 26th edition to March 2027, the Moroccan Cinematographic Center hopes to give Moroccan productions better exposure and allow more professionals to attend.

What this means for Moroccans living abroad

For Moroccans based abroad who often plan trips home around major cultural events, the new dates matter.

  • Those who were expecting to travel to Tangier in late October 2026 for the festival will need to adjust their plans.
  • Holding the event in March 2027 may fit better with early-year holiday periods in some destination countries.
  • Moroccan talents and professionals living abroad who are involved in national productions gain extra time to prepare their participation.

For cinema lovers in the diaspora, moving the festival away from the busiest international season can also ease scheduling conflicts between events in their country of residence and cultural trips to Morocco.

A flagship event for Moroccan cinema

The this case remains the main institutional showcase for Moroccan cinema. It brings together new productions, fosters debate on the sector’s challenges and offers recognition to creative and technical teams.

While the detailed programme for this rescheduled 26th edition is still to come, audiences and professionals, both in Morocco and abroad, will now need to adapt their calendars. Moroccans living abroad who want to organise a culture-focused stay in Tangier should now target this new spring window rather than autumn 2026.

Practical information on final dates, film selections and access conditions is expected later from the Moroccan Cinematographic Center through its official channels.
