Harmattan AI Rabat marks a new stage in the industrial development of the French defense unicorn. A few months after its strategic partnership with the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), the company is preparing its production capabilities in Morocco to support its growth in Africa and the Middle East.
The company is notably recruiting a VP Production Morocco based in Rabat. The future executive will be responsible for developing the group’s industrial capabilities and structuring its network of partners and suppliers.
Harmattan AI Rabat prepares for a new phase
On 17 June 2026, Harmattan AI announced the signing of a strategic partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco and the Royal Armed Forces.
The agreement provides for the establishment of production capabilities in Morocco for autonomous defense systems. It also includes the creation of a research and development center dedicated to artificial intelligence applied to defense.
Since then, Harmattan AI Rabat has entered a more operational phase.
The company’s official website now lists Morocco among its international locations. The group is also present in France, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.
A Rabat-based VP Production for the MEA region
The recruitment of a VP Production Morocco is one of the clearest signs of this acceleration.
Based in Rabat, this executive will oversee the development of Harmattan AI’s manufacturing capabilities in the Africa–Middle East region.
The role covers several dimensions. The VP will be expected to develop industrial partnerships, organize production and support the transition from prototypes to larger-scale manufacturing.
The job description also mentions the management of the supply chain, costs, quality and lead times.
Harmattan AI is also recruiting several technical profiles in Rabat. Its careers page lists positions in engineering, quality, systems, software and supply chain.
From prototyping to series production
This new organization is designed to support the company’s change of scale.
Harmattan AI is seeking to strengthen its production capacity. To achieve this, the group needs to bring its engineering teams, testing activities and industrial operations closer together.
The VP Production Morocco position explicitly refers to the creation of an industrial ecosystem capable of supporting scalable production.
It also highlights the quality standards applicable to the aerospace and defense sectors.
A strategic partnership with the FAR
The Moroccan base is directly linked to the partnership announced in June with the Royal Armed Forces.
Harmattan AI then presented three main pillars. The first concerns the development of manufacturing capabilities in Morocco. The second focuses on creating an R&D center dedicated to defense artificial intelligence.
The third pillar relates to partnerships with Moroccan higher education and research institutions.
The group has not, however, publicly detailed all the equipment that will be produced locally.
Some media reports have mentioned the Gobi interceptor in particular. Harmattan AI has not publicly confirmed this specific industrialization.
A French unicorn backed by Dassault Aviation
Harmattan AI has been experiencing strong growth since its January 2026 funding round.
The company raised 200 million dollars in a round led by Dassault Aviation. The deal brought its valuation to 1.4 billion dollars.
Harmattan AI thus joined the group of French unicorns in the defense sector.
The company also announced in June a new French order for its Sonora system. According to Harmattan AI, the French defence procurement agency (Direction générale de l’armement) ordered 5,000 additional units, after an initial delivery of 1,000 systems.
Rabat becomes an industrial axis for Harmattan AI
With its Moroccan base, the company is gradually building a new industrial organization.
Harmattan AI Rabat is intended to support the development of the group’s autonomous systems in the Africa–Middle East region.
The recruitment of the VP Production Morocco and the arrival of new technical profiles illustrate this ramp-up.
The project is still in a structuring phase, however. The announcements available describe industrial capabilities that are still being developed. They do not yet allow Rabat to be described as a fully operational factory.
