U20 AFCON: Morocco outclass Egypt and book place in final phase

The Morocco U20 AFCON team has officially booked its ticket to the final phase of the Africa Cup of Nations after a convincing 2-0 win over Egypt on Saturday at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia. The result confirms the rise of the Atlas Cubs and offers another moment of pride for Moroccans at home and abroad.

A controlled performance from Morocco’s youngsters

From the opening minutes, Morocco’s U20 side set the tempo with intensity and discipline. High pressing and sharp movement unsettled Egypt’s back line.

In the 25th minute, Adam Baallal broke the deadlock, rewarding the Atlas Cubs’ early dominance. Just eight minutes later, in the 33rd minute, Sami Bouhoudane doubled the lead, allowing Morocco to head into the locker room with a two-goal advantage.

With that cushion, the team managed the game smartly, alternating between phases of possession and rapid counters.

Solid at the back against Egypt

Egypt came out stronger in the second half, pushing hard to get back into the game. But their efforts were repeatedly stopped by a compact and well-organised Moroccan defence.

Goalkeeper Belaârouch delivered key saves, while the defensive line stayed focused, cutting passing lanes and winning aerial duels. Despite Egyptian pressure, Morocco maintained its structure until the final whistle.

Up front, the Atlas Cubs kept looking for a third goal on the break, without managing to increase the scoreline.

Morocco U20 AFCON ticket already secured

When the referee blew for full time, the scoreboard read 2-0. That victory guarantees Morocco U20 AFCON qualification for the final tournament, even before the last game of the North African qualifying event, scheduled against Libya.

The run underlines the strength of Morocco’s youth system and the continuity of work carried out in the junior national teams. For Moroccan families and fans based in Europe, North America or the Gulf, these performances strengthen emotional ties with the homeland and showcase the national jersey on the African stage.

A team followed closely by Moroccans abroad

For Moroccans living overseas, this U20 generation is more than a promising squad; it is a window into the future of the senior national team.

Many young dual nationals playing in European or other leagues keep a close eye on these tournaments to assess the level and ambition of Morocco’s project. Every major youth competition like the Morocco U20 AFCON campaign helps attract new talent and reinforces the image of an ambitious football nation.

In the coming months, members of the diaspora can:
