Abdelatif Benazzi’s international story began with the Moroccan national team, before he moved onto the highest level with France. Between 1990 and 2001, he played 78 times for the French national side, mainly as a lock or back-row forward.
He took part in three Rugby World Cups, in 1991, 1995 and 1999, and captained France on 15 occasions. At club level, he became a symbol of SU Agen, where he spent twelve seasons.
His name is also attached to one of French rugby’s most iconic moments: the historic victory over New Zealand at Eden Park in 1994. Benazzi contributed to the movement that produced Jean-Luc Sadourny’s famous “try from the end of the world”, still widely remembered today.
