The Casablanca Stock Exchange opened higher on Monday, sending a positive signal to investors after last week’s decline.
Casablanca Stock Exchange starts the week on an upward trend
At the opening bell, the main benchmark of the Casablanca Stock Exchange, the MASI, gained 0.62%, reaching 17,928.63 points. This rebound follows a 0.29% drop recorded at Friday’s close.
For Moroccans living abroad who keep an eye on their assets at home or are planning a return with investment projects, this move shows a market that remains active, with clear differences between sectors.
Key indices move into the green
Several of Casablanca’s main market indices opened in positive territory:
- The MASI 20, which tracks the 20 most liquid stocks, rose 0.99% to 1,300.62 points.
- The MASI ESG, dedicated to companies with the best environmental, social and governance scores, added 0.27% to 1,324.76 points.
- The MASI Mid and Small Cap, covering small and mid-cap stocks, climbed 0.32% to 1,742.14 points.
Taken together, these indicators confirm a broadly positive start to the trading day, even if not all sectors are benefiting equally.
Top gainers and underperforming stocks
At stock level, several names stood out in early trading. Involys posted one of the strongest advances, jumping 9.9% to 136 dirhams. SNEP added 5.67% to 317 dirhams, while Sothema gained 4.12% to 354 dirhams.
The energy and fuel distribution segment was also well supported, with TotalEnergies Marketing Maroc up 3.57% at 1,450 dirhams and TAQA Morocco higher by 3.26% at 1,740 dirhams.
On the downside, some stocks came under pressure. Med Paper dropped 4.86% to 23.3 dirhams. Colorado lost 3.39% to 77 dirhams, while Lesieur Cristal slipped 2.91% to 300 dirhams. Among tech-related shares, HPS fell 2.66% to 621 dirhams and Microdata 2.32% to 757 dirhams.
What this means for Moroccans investing from abroad
For Moroccans abroad who already hold a brokerage account in Morocco or are considering investing from a distance ahead of a potential return, this session illustrates a mixed but lively market. Some stocks are posting sharp gains, while others are correcting significantly.
It is risky to draw firm conclusions from a single opening, but these moves highlight the need to follow indices such as the MASI, MASI 20 and MASI ESG on a regular basis before making decisions. Overseas investors can combine this market data with information from their banks and licensed brokers in Morocco, as well as guidance from official online resources.
The Casablanca Stock Exchange thus remains a key indicator for taking the pulse of part of the Moroccan economy and adjusting medium or long-term investment plans from abroad.
Before you invest from overseas
Before increasing exposure or opening a portfolio from outside Morocco, it is advisable to:
- check up-to-date information with licensed financial intermediaries;
- align market signals with your own return or long-term strategy;
- seek information on practical procedures and tax rules that apply to non-residents.
These precautions can help Moroccans abroad make better use of signals such as Monday’s positive start in Casablanca.
