Lockheed Martin turns to Moroccan suppliers at Marrakech Airshow

Lockheed Martin Morocco is putting industrial subcontracting at the center of its presence at Marrakech Airshow 2026, aiming to bring more Moroccan companies into its global programs.

An industry day ahead of the airshow

As Platinum Sponsor of Marrakech Airshow 2026, Lockheed Martin is moving beyond a purely commercial presence. On 6 October, the US group will host a full industry day in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The stated goal is clear: identify new manufacturing capabilities in Morocco and open more of its current and future programs to companies based in the Kingdom. Invited firms will be briefed on the standards, certifications and requirements Lockheed Martin expects from its suppliers.

For Moroccan manufacturers already plugged into global value chains, as well as for SMEs upgrading their capabilities, this meeting is meant to bridge the gap between the needs of a major international contractor and local know‑how.

Lockheed Martin Morocco and the supply chain challenge

According to Steve Sheehy, vice president for international business at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, the group wants Moroccan companies to play a bigger role in its worldwide supply chain.

The message goes beyond the timeframe of the airshow. It is about positioning Morocco on higher value‑added segments in parts manufacturing, engineering and maintenance services.

For Moroccans living abroad, Lockheed Martin Morocco’s renewed interest in subcontracting in the country sends three important signals:

  • stronger confidence in Morocco’s industrial and regulatory stability;
  • future opportunities for MRE entrepreneurs running tech or aerospace SMEs, in partnership with local players;
  • prospects for skilled jobs on the ground, relevant for those planning a return or productive investment.

In the long run, deeper integration into Lockheed Martin’s value chain could cement Morocco’s place as a regional hub for aerospace and defense, sectors already targeted by several industrial zones and public strategies.

Five decades of cooperation and a bet on maintenance

The current Lockheed Martin Morocco initiative builds on a relationship dating back to 1974, when the first C‑130H Hercules aircraft were delivered to the Royal Air Forces. Since then, cooperation has expanded to other platforms and upgrades of existing capabilities.

Maintenance and sustainment are now a key focus. In 2022, Lockheed Martin partnered with Sabena Engineering and MEDZ to support the development of Maintenance Aero Maroc. The project materialised in Benslimane, with the launch of a large‑scale facility dedicated to aircraft maintenance.

For diaspora investors interested in aerospace, these projects confirm the emergence of an ecosystem that combines:

  • maintenance, repair and overhaul centres;
  • plants producing parts and sub‑assemblies;
  • specialised training and upskilled Moroccan engineers and technicians.

This ecosystem can, over time, make it easier to build partnerships between Moroccan capital abroad and local industry, especially in niche segments where international experience of the diaspora is a clear asset.

A technology showcase at Marrakech Airshow 2026

At Marrakech Airshow, scheduled from 7 to 10 October 2026, Lockheed Martin’s stand will feature an F‑35 cockpit demonstrator for invited visitors. Scale models of several of the group’s aircraft will also be on display.

Beyond the technological spectacle, this demonstrator serves as a showcase for an ecosystem where Moroccan subcontracting is expected to gain more weight. Concrete announcements — in terms of contracts or newly approved suppliers — will depend on the outcome of the industry day discussions and on follow‑up work by Moroccan authorities and the company.

While official confirmations and detailed figures are still awaited, this industrial push at Marrakech Airshow is already a strong indicator of Lockheed Martin’s interest in Morocco as a production and service base in a highly technological sector.
