Evotrust Diaspora Barometer: Moroccan Talent Considering a Return Home

Why are some Moroccans around the world thinking about returning to Morocco, while others prefer to keep building their careers abroad? The Evotrust firm has launched its first Diaspora Barometer to better understand their motivations and expectations.

Unveiled on 12 October 2026, this initiative aims to collect data on return plans, professional opportunities and the obstacles faced by Moroccans living abroad.

Specialising in the recruitment of executives, experts and senior leaders, Evotrust wants to document the expectations of this community more accurately.

Evotrust Diaspora Barometer: tracking intentions to return to Morocco

Returning to Morocco is a real option for many professionals established overseas. But between the desire to come back and the decision to actually resettle, several questions arise.

Career prospects, salary levels and working conditions all play a decisive role. Family situation, children’s schooling and administrative procedures are also part of the equation.

According to Maya Mazroui, head of Evotrust, discussions with Moroccans abroad show strong interest in professional opportunities in the Kingdom. The firm now intends to measure this trend based on answers collected directly from those concerned.

The goal is to move beyond individual impressions. The barometer is designed to shed light on the factors that encourage a return or, on the contrary, delay the decision.

Four key themes to understand what Moroccans abroad expect

The survey is structured around four main themes.

The first focuses on the image of Morocco. It looks at emotional attachment to the country and perceptions of its economic development. It also examines how visible professional opportunities are.

The second centres on return intentions. Respondents can indicate their time frame for resettlement. Some are considering a return in the short term, while others are still in the reflection phase.

The third theme explores obstacles. The study focuses in particular on salaries, the professional environment and administrative procedures. It also takes into account the needs of families.

The fourth looks at the conditions for a successful return. It aims to identify what candidates expect from employers and from the Moroccan economic ecosystem.

Taken together, these four areas should help clarify the criteria that influence the decisions of professionals living abroad.

A survey open to all Moroccans living abroad

The Evotrust Diaspora Barometer is open to all Moroccans around the world, regardless of their country of residence or sector of activity.

Recent graduates can take part, as well as experienced managers, researchers, consultants and entrepreneurs.

The questionnaire is available online on Evotrust’s dedicated platform: take part in the Diaspora Barometer.

Each response will help enrich the analysis of the diaspora’s expectations and projects. The diversity of profiles is therefore a key element of the approach.

Recruitment: bringing Moroccan companies closer to diaspora talent

For companies based in Morocco, recruiting experienced profiles is a major strategic issue. Skills acquired abroad can boost the development of many economic sectors.

But attracting these professionals requires a clear understanding of what they are looking for. An attractive salary is not always enough. Career progression, professional autonomy and quality of life can also strongly influence their decisions.

The results of the Evotrust Diaspora Barometer could therefore provide valuable insights for recruiters and human resources managers.

They could in particular help companies adapt their job offers and onboarding programmes. They would also make it easier to identify the practical challenges candidates encounter when they consider returning.

Testing Morocco’s attractiveness against diaspora expectations

Morocco is seeking to better mobilise the skills of its nationals living abroad. To do so, it needs to understand what could convince them to come back to work, invest or start businesses in the Kingdom.

The Evotrust Diaspora Barometer aims to provide answers to this question.

However, it remains essential to distinguish between declared intentions and concrete decisions to resettle. The survey results will therefore be particularly useful for identifying trends, motivations and major obstacles.

By turning the testimonies of Moroccans around the world into actionable data, Evotrust aims to support dialogue between the diaspora, companies and national economic stakeholders.

The challenge is clear: to better understand Moroccan talent abroad in order to better prepare for their possible return.
