Casablanca Stock Exchange ends the week in positive territory

The Casablanca Stock Exchange finished the week of 21–25 September in positive territory, sending a reassuring signal to investors who keep a close eye on Morocco from abroad.

Casablanca Stock Exchange: main indices move higher

The main benchmark of the Casablanca Stock Exchange, the MASI index, rose by 1.28% to 17,818.09 points. This upward move confirms a relatively supportive market phase after a summer marked by bouts of uncertainty.

The MASI.20 index, which tracks the 20 most liquid stocks, added 0.43% to 1,287.87 points. The MASI.ESG index, composed of companies with the best environmental, social and governance ratings, advanced by 1.02% to 1,321.17 points.

Sector performance on the Casablanca Stock Exchange remained mixed. Three segments clearly stood out on the upside:

  • Mining: +6.51%
  • Real estate development and holdings: +2.67%
  • Engineering and industrial equipment: +2.58%

On the downside, several sectors underwent corrections or profit-taking. Pharmaceuticals dropped 5.67%, chemicals fell 4.02%, and listed real estate investment companies lost 2.86%.

Active trading and most traded stocks

Weekly trading on the this case exceeded 1.39 billion dirhams, mainly on the central market. Three stocks accounted for a large share of activity: BCP (16.5% of volumes), Managem (10.15%) and TGCC S.A (10.04%).

Total market capitalisation stood at more than 1,048.32 billion dirhams, underlining the weight of the this issue in Morocco’s financial landscape.

Individually, several shares posted strong weekly gains, including Minière Touissit, Fenie Brossette, SGTM, Lesieur Cristal and Rebab Company. On the other hand, Cartier Saada, Sothema, Sanlam Maroc, SNEP and Maghrebail recorded some of the steepest declines.
