Morocco: One Hour Without Cars on 18 October to Protest Rising Fuel Prices

Moroccan drivers are being asked to leave their vehicles parked for one hour on Sunday, 18 October 2026. The call covers the period from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and aims to protest against rising fuel prices and their impact on household purchasing power.

The initiative comes from the Citizens’ Initiative Committee for Capping Fuel Prices. In an appeal published on 11 October, the group is encouraging people across Morocco to voluntarily suspend their motorised journeys.

Fuel prices in Morocco: a day of mobilisation announced

Under the slogan “One Hour for Purchasing Power and Social Dignity”, the campaign seeks to draw attention to the cost of fuel in Morocco.

Organisers are asking citizens not to use their cars, motorbikes or any other vehicles for one hour. Their goal is to make their demands heard by the authorities and key players in the fuel sector.

The collective is calling in particular for a cap on fuel prices. It argues that rising prices are putting pressure on family budgets and increasing day‑to‑day transport expenses.

A price hike affecting more than just drivers

For the organisers, the issue goes far beyond private motorists.

Fuel costs also affect transport expenses for professionals and businesses. They can weigh on the delivery of goods and, in turn, on the final price of many products and services.

The collective therefore wants to put the fuel question back at the centre of the debate on purchasing power in Morocco. It is urging the authorities to look at measures that could limit the impact of these increases on households.

A peaceful, voluntary action

The group presents the initiative as a symbolic and peaceful mobilisation. It stresses that the action is not intended to block roads or disrupt public services.

Participants are asked to respect other road users’ freedom of movement. Urgent travel and medical situations must also remain a priority.

Taking part is entirely voluntary. The scale of the mobilisation will therefore depend on how many citizens choose to respond to the call.

Fuel price cap at the heart of the demands

Beyond this one‑hour car‑free action, the collective is pushing a central demand: to introduce a cap on fuel prices in Morocco.

It also wants to highlight the broader economic and social consequences of higher fuel costs. The aim is to encourage public authorities to look into concrete responses.

This mobilisation, however, does not guarantee any immediate reduction in prices. Above all, it is a way to raise public awareness and make the collective’s demands more visible.

Sunday 18 October: the date set for action

The call targets all citizens in Morocco who wish to join this symbolic action.

The car‑free hour is scheduled for Sunday, 18 October 2026, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. During this time, organisers are asking participants to leave their vehicles parked, as far as their situation allows.

It remains to be seen how large the mobilisation will be and whether it will help to revive the national debate on capping fuel prices.
