The Consulate General of Italy in Casablanca and VFS Global have set up an emergency shelter for Italian women survivors of violence and their children. The initiative aims to provide a safe place to stay in situations of family or domestic danger.
The shelter was inaugurated in the presence of Francesco Capecchi, Consul General of Italy in Casablanca, and Zubin Karkaria, founder and CEO of VFS Global.
Emergency accommodation for women affected by violence
This new arrangement offers Italian nationals confronted with violence a temporary housing solution.
It is also available to their children. The goal is to provide immediate protection when they need to leave a dangerous environment.
The initiative responds to the specific challenges foreign women can face in times of distress. Being far from their families and unfamiliar with local support services can make it harder to seek help.
Support that goes beyond a safe place to stay
The shelter complements existing local mechanisms for assisting survivors of violence.
Women may also need psychological counselling and legal assistance. Emergency accommodation is often a first step before tailored follow-up is organised according to each situation.
Francesco Capecchi highlighted the importance of a rapid and appropriate response to the needs of people in difficulty. The scheme is designed to strengthen consular protection for Italian nationals living in Morocco.
VFS Global commits to a social initiative
For VFS Global, this partnership is part of a broader social responsibility strategy.
Zubin Karkaria reaffirmed the importance of contributing to the well-being of communities where the company operates. The group aims in particular to support initiatives focused on protecting and including vulnerable people.
This collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy illustrates how partnerships between diplomatic missions and private companies can help develop concrete support systems.
The role of VFS Global in consular services
VFS Global assists governments with the administrative processing of visa applications and other consular services. The company handles the processing of documents but does not take decisions on whether visas are granted.
Active in many countries, it works with governments and public authorities to make procedures easier for travellers and applicants.
In Casablanca, its partnership with the Italian diplomatic representation has a specific social dimension. It helps provide an accommodation solution for Italian women facing situations of violence.
A concrete response to situations of distress
The opening of this emergency shelter expands the protection options available to Italian women survivors of violence in Morocco.
For the women concerned and their children, having access to a safe place can be a crucial step. From there, they can start the necessary procedures to secure their future and plan the next stages of their journey.
This initiative underlines the importance of accessible, appropriate support solutions for people facing violence, especially when they are far from their home country.
