Casablanca opens emergency shelter for Italian women facing violence

The Consulate General of Italy in Casablanca and VFS Global have launched an emergency accommodation scheme for Italian women who are victims of violence in Morocco. The facility is also open to their children.

The initiative aims to provide a safe place for women experiencing domestic or family violence in Morocco. It is designed to help them find immediate protection and start the necessary procedures to safeguard their rights.

Emergency accommodation for women survivors of violence

The Consulate General of Italy in Casablanca inaugurated this facility in the presence of Consul General Francesco Capecchi and Zubin Karkaria, founder and CEO of VFS Global.

The scheme responds to the difficulties encountered by some Italian nationals living in Morocco. Isolation, distance from family and administrative hurdles can make it harder for them to leave a dangerous situation.

The shelter offers an initial safe solution for women and their children who are victims of violence.

Support that goes beyond accommodation

The new facility complements existing local mechanisms for supporting survivors of violence.

Women can receive tailored assistance according to their situation. This may include psychological support and legal aid.

The objective is to ensure rapid access to protection and to guide survivors towards the competent services.

According to Francesco Capecchi, the initiative reflects the consulate’s determination to respond to the urgent needs of its citizens abroad. Cooperation with a private partner also helps strengthen the resources available for their protection.

VFS Global commits to protecting women

For VFS Global, this partnership is part of its corporate social responsibility strategy.

The company mainly operates in services related to visa applications and international mobility. It also seeks to support social initiatives in the countries where it is active.

Zubin Karkaria highlighted the importance of this commitment to vulnerable people. The group presents the project as a concrete contribution to the safety and well-being of women facing difficult situations.

VFS Global, a global player in consular services

Founded in 2001, VFS Global supports governments with the administrative management of visa applications and other consular services.

The company is responsible in particular for collecting applications and the data required for these procedures. It does not decide on the issuance of visas, as this responsibility lies with the competent authorities.

Its international network allows it to work with numerous governments and process applications in several regions of the world.

A targeted response to situations of violence

The opening of this shelter in Casablanca provides an additional solution for Italian nationals facing violence in Morocco.

The scheme combines immediate protection with follow-up support to ease subsequent procedures. It also aims to ensure that affected women are not left alone to deal with these challenges.

This initiative underlines the importance of emergency mechanisms for victims of violence abroad. It also highlights the role consular representations and their partners can play in guaranteeing access to protection.
