The Selectair congress Tamuda Bay is emerging as a new tool to position northern Morocco as a key destination for Belgian travellers, with expected knock-on effects for tourism and local investment.
Selectair congress Tamuda Bay: a bet on the Belgian market
Belgium’s main network of travel agencies, Selectair, will hold its annual congress in Tamuda Bay from 30 September to 4 October 2026. The event is being organised in partnership with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT).
According to the information released, around 90 agencies and the network’s main partners are expected to attend. The stated goal is to deepen knowledge of Morocco’s offer and to increase sales to the Kingdom.
Selectair brings together 88 independent agencies and around 320 employees, mainly in Flanders. The network generated nearly 310 million euros in turnover in 2025, making it a key decision-maker on the Belgian market.
A strategic event for northern Morocco
By hosting this Selectair congress Tamuda Bay in the north of the country, ONMT wants to highlight a more diversified offer than the usual city-break destinations.
- Beach resorts on the Mediterranean coast
- Cultural experiences in northern cities
- High-end and tailor-made stays
The aim is to encourage Belgian agencies to include the region more often in their catalogues and tour programmes. For local tourism operators, accommodation providers and service companies, this extra exposure could translate, in the medium term, into more bookings and better visibility among a solvent clientele.
For Moroccans living in Belgium or elsewhere in Europe who invest in tourist or rental properties back home, demand from Belgium is a key signal. A steady rise in arrivals could reinforce the attractiveness of projects in the north and support occupancy rates in both high and shoulder seasons.
A Belgian market on the rise
Belgium has become a strategic tourism market for Morocco in recent years. The Kingdom welcomed 1.2 million Belgian visitors in 2025, an increase of around 10% compared with 2024.
By the end of July 2026, arrivals from Belgium had already exceeded 834,000 visitors, up 8% year-on-year. Morocco is targeting 1.4 million Belgian visitors for the whole of 2026 and has stated its ambition to reach two million Belgian tourists per year by 2030.
For ONMT, the partnership around the Selectair congress Tamuda Bay is meant to turn this visibility into actual bookings. Another objective is to build long-term relationships with agencies that directly influence their customers’ holiday choices.
Partners and confidence signals for Moroccans abroad
Selectair’s president, Martine Dewispelaere, who took office in March 2026, will attend the congress. Several major industry players are also expected, including TUI Belgium, Brussels Airport, Amadeus, MSC Cruises and RIU Hotels. The Flemish association of travel agencies (VVR) will also be represented.
For Moroccans abroad, and particularly those based in Belgium, holding this congress in Morocco with such partners sends a positive signal in terms of confidence and stability of the destination. It could encourage:
- tourism or rental investment projects in the north of the country,
- family trips that combine holidays and administrative procedures,
- greater diversification of destinations beyond Morocco’s best-known cities.
The concrete impact on bookings and investments will depend on decisions made by agencies and travellers in the coming months. Moroccan authorities are betting on the cumulative effect of this type of event to sustain the growth of the Belgian market through to 2030.
