RNI signals readiness to join Morocco’s next government

This update focuses on RNI next government. Morocco’s National Rally of Independents (RNI) has announced that it is ready to take part in the next government, while leaving the final decision to an extraordinary session of its National Council in Rabat.

Political bureau focuses on the new phase

Meeting on Tuesday 30 September in Rabat, the RNI political bureau reviewed the results of the latest parliamentary elections and outlined the party’s main orientations for the coming period. Despite losing ground compared with the previous vote, the party considers that it remains a major force in the national political landscape.

Party leaders praised the election campaign conducted across the country and the strong involvement of members, candidates and elected officials. They also highlighted the performance of RNI ministers in the outgoing government and the reforms they helped to push forward.

For Moroccans living abroad, these political moves are worth watching closely, as the composition of the future cabinet will shape public policies that affect everyday procedures, investment projects and travel plans with Morocco.

RNI next government decision handed to the National Council

On the basis of this first assessment, the political bureau said the party is ready to join the next government, in order to continue ongoing reforms and contribute to addressing the challenges of the new period.

It nevertheless chose to hand the final say to its National Council. An extraordinary session is scheduled for Saturday 3 October in Rabat. This body will deliberate, in light of the current political consultations, on whether the party will join the executive.

For Moroccans abroad, whether the RNI becomes part of the ruling coalition could influence several key issues, including:

  • plans to simplify procedures for those returning to the country,
  • incentives for productive investment from overseas,
  • consular and digital services aimed at Moroccans worldwide,
  • transport and seasonal travel policies, especially in summer.

It will therefore be important to follow both the National Council’s decision and any ministerial portfolios that might be entrusted to RNI figures.

A new head of government and a signal on women’s leadership

The political bureau also congratulated Fatima Ezzahra Mansouri on her appointment as head of government, describing it as an important step for women’s presence at the highest levels of public responsibility.

This appointment sends a strong signal, including to Moroccan communities abroad, who are used to seeing women take on visible roles in public life in their host countries. It could also influence the composition of the future cabinet and the way social, economic and diaspora-related dossiers will be handled.

Consultations on forming the next government have already started. An RNI delegation, led by party president Mohamed Chouki, has been received by the head of government as part of this process. Whether the party becomes part of the RNI next government scenario now depends on how its National Council votes.

What Moroccans abroad should monitor

While waiting for the final decision, Moroccans living abroad can already prepare their plans by monitoring a few concrete indicators:
