NATIONAL ELECTRONIC IDENTITY CARD
Application, withdrawal and renewal
The CNIE is an official document proving a citizen’s identity and Moroccan nationality; it is compulsory from the age of 18 and is valid for 10 years. Minors aged over 12 may also obtain one, particularly when applying for a passport.
To apply for the CNIE, the MRE must appear in person at the consular services. This application can also be made to the DGSN in Morocco, provided the same documents are submitted.
Once the application has been submitted, a dated receipt is issued to the applicant. This document will be required when collecting the CNIE and must be kept in a safe place. If the receipt is lost, the MRE must provide a declaration certified by the consular or local authorities. As with the application, the CNIE must be collected by the applicant themselves or by their legal guardian.
It is important to note that the MRE must renew their Electronic National Identity Card when it expires or in the following cases:
- Change of address;
- Damage to, loss of or theft of the CNIE;
- Change of first name, surname, date of birth … or any other detail on the civil status certificate.
PLEASE NOTE:
The person’s fingerprints are taken in the following cases:
- First request from the CNIE;
- Replacement of the old ID card (CIN) with the new one (CNIE);
- Damage to, loss of or theft of the card.
FIRST APPLICATION 
- Consular Registration Certificate;
- A copy of the page from the family record book containing information on parentage (in Arabic and in Latin script), together with the original family record book, or a full copy of the birth certificate (issued within the last 6 months) or an extract from the birth certificate (issued within the last 6 months);
- Four standard passport photographs, measuring 3.5 cm by 4.5 cm;
The case of the term ‘wife’:
- A certified copy of the marriage certificate;
- An extract from the husband’s birth certificate;
In the case of the terms ‘widow’ or ‘widower’:
- A certified copy of the marriage certificate;
- An extract from the spouse’s death certificate;
The case of foreign nationals who have acquired Moroccan nationality and children born to a foreign father and a Moroccan mother (before 2 April 2007):
- A certified true copy of the document granting Moroccan nationality.
RENEWAL
- Consular Registration Certificate;
- Two recent, standard passport-sized photographs measuring 3.5 cm by 4.5 cm;
In the event that the CNIE expires or there is a change of address:
- Return of the old CNIE.
In the event of damage, loss or theft of the CNIE:
- A corresponding declaration made to the authorities responsible for the CNIE;
Cases involving a change to a first name, surname, date of birth … or any other detail on the civil status certificate:
- The administrative documents proving these changes.
CANCELLATION OF THE CNIE
- Receipt of the application for the CNIE (or a declaration of its loss, where applicable);
Minors and persons under guardianship:
- The identity card of the person collecting the items (father, mother or legal guardian, together with proof of that status).
