INDIVIDUAL DOCUMENTS
Biometric passport
Application, withdrawal and renewal
A biometric passport is an individual travel document issued regardless of the holder’s age, unless a court order stipulates otherwise. It is valid for five years (three years for children under the age of three).
An application for this document may be made by the MRE themselves or by their legal representative (in the case of minors and persons under guardianship). In all cases, the applicant must be present. Minors and persons under guardianship must also be present, accompanied by their legal representatives.
Applications must be submitted to the consular services. They may also be submitted to the local Moroccan authorities in the event of damage to, loss of or theft of a Moroccan national residing abroad’s passport whilst they are in Morocco. In such cases, the applicant must contact the local authority responsible for the MRE’s place of residence in Morocco or the prefecture (or province) of their place of stay (for MREs who cannot provide proof of a place of residence in Morocco).
Once the application has been submitted, a dated receipt is issued to the applicant. This document will be required when collecting the passport and must be kept in a safe place. If the receipt is lost, the MRE must provide a statement certified by the consular or local authorities.
The biometric passport must be collected by the applicant in person, by their legal guardian, or by any other person duly authorised to do so. When renewing a passport, and unless it has been tampered with, stolen or lost (as evidenced by a certified declaration), the applicant must present their old passport to the consular service for cancellation (perforation). Please ensure you point out any pages containing valid visas so that they are not stamped with the cancellation mark.
NB: You can track the progress of your passport application at www.passeport.ma.

PLEASE NOTE:
- The applicant’s fingerprints are taken if they are a minor aged over 12 who does not hold a CNIE;
- The processing time for a biometric passport must not exceed six months from the date the application is submitted. If it does, the application is cancelled and a new one must be submitted.
