Death certificate
Recording of deaths in the civil register and the family record book
The death is registered with the consular services. The declaration may be made at the Consulate by the son, the spouse, the father, the mother, the testamentary or appointed guardian, the Kafala guardian (for a person under Kafala), a brother, a grandfather, as well as close relatives (in order of priority), or any authority legally authorised to do so.
If a Moroccan citizen dies whilst travelling, the death must be reported within thirty days of the date of arrival. This can be done at the Moroccan registry office at the first Moroccan port or airport (in the case of travel by sea or air), at the Moroccan consular services at the destination, or at the registry office in the deceased’s last place of residence in Morocco.
- A full copy of the death certificate issued by the competent authority in the country where the death occurred;
- The deceased’s passport and CNIE;
- Family register or Moroccan identity and civil status register in which the deceased is listed, where applicable;
- Extract from the deceased’s birth certificate;
- Marriage certificate, if applicable;
- An extract from the birth certificate or National Identity Card (CNIE) of the widower or widow, where applicable.
