CONSULAR REGISTRATION
Registration and certification
As this is important so that you can be contacted if necessary (for information, assistance, etc.), you must register at the consulate responsible for your place of residence. This is compulsory in order to access any consular services (Electronic National Identity Card, Biometric Passport, etc.).
To make the process more accessible, a centralised electronic register of consular registrations, with unique identifiers, was launched in 2023. This enables Moroccans living abroad to book appointments and access a wide range of consular services at all the Kingdom’s diplomatic missions and consular posts, regardless of which post has jurisdiction over their place and country of residence. For services relating to civil status (registration of births and deaths, and the issue of birth and death certificates and family record books), the implementation of this facility is still ongoing.
The procedure for consular registration requires the beneficiary to be present and to provide documents proving their identity, lawful residence, place of residence, etc.
Once this formality has been completed, a certificate of registration is issued to the person concerned. This document may also be requested at any time thereafter.
In Morocco, the consular registration certificate may be used (in the same way as a certificate of residence) for various services provided by local authorities (such as Customs) exclusively for Moroccans living abroad (MREs).
It should be noted that registration is automatically cancelled in the event of death, a change of address or following a permanent return to Morocco.
In certain cases (people on a temporary stay* or in the process of regularising their residence status), the decision on whether or not to register rests with the relevant consular authority.

APPLICATION
You must complete the registration form (available in person or online) and submit the following documents:
For adults (aged 18 and over): 
- Two standard passport photographs, 4 cm by 3 cm in size;
- Original + photocopy of your passport or CNIE or receipt for your CNIE;
- A valid proof of residence (residence card, long-stay visa, student visa or permit, work permit, foreign identity card or foreign passport), or any official document showing your address;
- If the document proving the validity of your stay does not state your current address, you must provide proof of address (certificate of residence, tenancy agreement, water, electricity or landline telephone bill, or a certified certificate of accommodation).
For minors (who must be accompanied by or have the authorisation of their legal representative):
- Two standard passport photographs, 4 cm by 3 cm in size;
- If the minor is over 12 years old and has one: the original and a photocopy of their passport, CNIE or CNIE application receipt. Otherwise: a copy of the Moroccan family record book or civil status record, or an extract from the birth certificate dated within the last year;
- A valid proof of residence or any official document showing your address;
- If the minor does not have proof of address in their own name, they must provide a photocopy of their guardian’s (father, mother or legal representative) identity card, together with proof of the guardian’s address.
