Moroccan nationality
Application for a certificate of nationality
The application can be made directly in Morocco to the relevant court (the court of first instance for the place of birth, the last place of residence in Morocco or Rabat, where applicable) or via the consular services. This involves completing a form and attaching the necessary documents (Documents to be provided).
Certificate of Recognition of Nationality
Although it is by no means a substitute for a certificate of nationality, this certificate may be requested from the consular services (see ‘Documents to be provided’). It is useful for French nationals living abroad in the event that urgent administrative procedures need to be carried out in their country of residence.
Cases involving the regularisation of children born to a Moroccan mother and a foreign father
To regularise a child’s status in such cases, in accordance with the new provisions of the Nationality Code (published on 2 April 2007), the child’s birth must be recorded in the Moroccan civil registry.
This procedure requires the submission of a certificate of nationality for any child born before the aforementioned publication date. For a child born after 2 April 2007, registration can be carried out at the relevant consular offices without this certificate (see ‘Documents to be provided’).
CERTIFICATE OF NATIONALITY 
- Consular Registration Certificate;
- CNIE or passport (original + copy) or family record book for minors who do not have a CNIE (original + copy);
- Marriage certificate for the spouses, where applicable.
CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION OF NATIONALITY
- Consular Registration Certificate;
- CNIE or passport;
- Family record book or identity and civil status record book.
Cases involving the regularisation of children born to a Moroccan mother and a foreign father (Children born before 2 April 2007)
- Two photos of the child;
- The child’s identity document (identity card, residence permit, passport, birth certificate, etc.);
- A full copy of the child’s birth certificate (showing the mother as the parent);
- A full copy of the mother’s birth certificate (issued within the last six months);
- A certified photocopy of the mother’s CNIE;
- A copy of the marriage certificate, if applicable.
